ArtHop - Art activities as part of youth support services in Lapland, Finland
ArtHop project organizes free art activities for young people between 15 to 29 years of age, who currently are not studying or working. Activities include art workshops at the art museum and in municipalities, guided tours, visits, live streams, and more. Project is initiated by Rovaniemi Art Museum in collaboration with local outreach youth work and five municipalities in Lapland: Kittilä, Keminmaa, Ranua, Rovaniemi and Savukoski.
ArtHop responds to a growing demand for youth support services amid societal changes, addressing marginalization and inequality through community art activities. Project period is 2024–2027. ArtHop is partially funded by the European Union (ESF+).
- Supporting young people through engaging art activities. Enhancing access to cultural resources in remote areas.
- Workshops are led by professionals in museum education and fine arts, utilizing contemporary art, ensuring inclusivity and successful outcomes for all participants.
- Establishing a permanent model for integrating art activities into municipal youth work services.
- Young participants will be offered opportunities for paid work as peer mentors, gaining valuable skills.
- Research has shown the positive effects of art on mental well-being, improvements in self-esteem and emotional processing.
